Giacomo 2005 Preakness Official Morning Saddlecloth
This official Preakness training saddlecloth was worn by Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo while galloping in the mornings prior to his running in the May 21, 2005 Preakness Stakes. The original Pimlico saddlecloth emanates from the personal collection of trainer John Shirreffs and represents the late Hall of Famer’s first starter in the American classic race run in Baltimore, MD. The historic 130th edition of the Preakness Stakes is best remembered for its dramatica final furlong with race-favorite Afleet Alex stumbling at the top of the stretch after clipping heals with Scrappy T, and nearly falling before regaining his stride and eventually winning the race. Giacomo would finish in third place behind those two.
The hand-stitched blue cotton canvas saddlecloth with black piping features the detailed triangular logo (CG describe) and Giacomo’s embroidered name. The saddlecloth represents the rarest of opportunities to own a Kentucky Derby winner’s official Preakness morning saddlecloth worn while training for the second jewel of the Triple Crown and boasting the most impeccable of provenance.
