Original Meadow Farm Lawn Jockey

This is the original cast concrete lawn jockey that once resided at The Meadow - the renowned birthplace of Secretariat. The famed Virginia farm was established by Christopher Chenery in 1936, and became one of the most accomplished breeding operations and racing stable's in the sport. This historic artifact bears/bore witness to the farm’s acclaimed homebred champions through the decades, including Hill Prince —1950 Horse of the Year; First Landing — 1958 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt, Cicada - 1961 Champion 2-Year-Old Filly, 1962 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly, 1963 Champion Older Female Horse; and the super-seventies duo of Riva Ridge — 1971 champion 2-Year-Old Colt, 1973 champion champion older male, and the legendary Triple Crown winner Secretariat — 1972 and 1973 Horse of the Year.

This unique piece of Thoroughbred racing history carries an impeccable provenance tracing forward from farm founder Christopher Chenery to his daughter Margaret Carmichael— sister of Penny Chenery — who inherited the 20th mid-century piece along with various other Meadow artifacts, trophies and artwork following the death of their father in 1973, and by descendant her daughter Lee Carmichael. Despite its decades long weather-worn wear, the vintage piece stands resolutely atop its rectangular concrete base and retains its original paint featuring the distinctive blue and and white colors of the famed Meadow Racing Stable.
